Hello 2019

We had our first meeting for 2019 last week. And what a huge meeting!  There were 39 completed quilts came in, and about the same number of knitted items.  Besides this, there were almost as many quilt tops which need to be completed.  So brace yourselves for lots of photos.

The first 4 quilts were all quilted by Cheryl, but no one owned up to making them, so sadly, I can't credit the maker.

Edited 4/2/2019: the quilt above was made by Friday Quilter friend  Gillian and quilted by Cheryl.

Cheryl also quilted this one made by Jill

And this one made by Dasha

Reckon she's done enough this time?  Well No, she hasn't, because se made and quilted the next 5 quilts.  Awesome work Cheryl!

Jill made the next one:

Kate O from Maroochydore sent in some quilt tops last year.  The next two are hers, quilted by Dasha.

Maria brought in 4 quilts made by her friends Robin and Mary.  These two awesome ladies frequently send us quilts.  Thank you ladies!

Totally in love with this - what do you think??

Jan brought 4 quilts in, the first is an exquisite applique quilt with woodland fairies on it.  I have included a close up of one of the sections.

Jan also did these 6 pillowcases with the logo for CaraCare done in applique.

Bev also brought in an applique quilt.  Isn't this gorgeous?

Daphne from Woodonga in Victoria is another lady who sends us quilts.  The next two are hers, quilted by Evelyn.

Evelyn made the next 3 quilts.

Robin made the next 5 quilts.  This fist one was in grey and white, and would you believe the rows are straight?? Every time I look at it the vertical lines move. Fabulous illusion created by the positioning of the blocks in the horizontal rows.

Helen made 4 flannel wraps, and a crocheted throw.

She also crocheted/knitted all these scarves, a shawl, a bed jacket and 37 beanies!

Last, last, lucky last is a little baby jacket donated to my church which I finished off.

Due to the large number of quilts that came in today, we had enough for a delivery to Domestic Violence NSW.  Jill and helpers selected 14 childrens, 5 laps and 23 single quilts, 2 baby wraps, 1 crocheted rug, 37 beanies and 10 scarves. Cheryl and Lesley will deliver these.
If you haven't given up and have got to here, thank you.  See you next time.

2018 Wrap Up

The last Thursday of November was our Christmas Party, which we had in a local Cafe.

Lots of good food, laughter and companionship, and a hilarious game organised by Lesley.

Jill passed around a list of the donations our group has made this year.  It was amazing what our little band of worker bees have managed to do this year.  We could not have done so much without the help of some generous people from around Australia, who have given us completed quilts, quilt tops and lots of lovely fabrics.  I was so excited I thought I should share it with you:

This year we donated 16 quilts as fund raisers to the following organisations:

Our Lady of Assumption School, North Strathfield
St Patrick's Church, Mortdale
Drummoyne Rotary Club (2 quilts)
Nicole Fitzsimmons Foundation
Palliative Care Unit, Concord Hospital
Cara Care, Concord
All Hallowes Church, Five Dock
Massey park Golf Club Charity Day
CWA Drought Relief Fund (2 quilts)
Handital, Five Dock
Concord Hospital Volunteers
Concord Senior Citizen's Club (3 quilts)

We also donated 254 quilts of different sizes, and 46 baby wraps - 300 in total; And 222 crocheted items made up of beanies, scarves, shawls, cuddles, slippers, bed jacket, rugs, and stuffed animals.

I won't list a complete breakdown of who got what and when as that will bore your socks off, but here are the organisations to which we donated quilts and crocheted items:

House With No Barriers, Orange
Lillian's, Erskineville
Palliative Care Unit, Concord Hospital
Ronald McDonald House
Chris O'Brien Lifehouse
Domestic Violence NSW
Meals on Wheels, Concord,
Westmead Children's Hospital
Sanctuary Housing, Ashfield
Dandelion Network
Barnardo's, Wyong

Total donations - 316 quilts
                          - 222 crocheted items

Merry Christmas to all our supporters.  See you in January.

Last Working Day for this Year

Our last working meeting for 2018 was held on 15th November.  11 of us turned up which was most of the members.  Plus Jan brought along a friend, Jeanette for a visit.  Despite a flat tyre on Pennant Hills Road, and a lengthy wait for assistance, Jeanette did enjoy herself.

Colleen, Evelyn, Cheryl and Jill will attend the Concord Senior Citizens Christmas Lunch on 3rd December to represent our group.

There are deliveries for Ronald McDonald House and Concord Hospital Palliative Care Unit to be made by Tuesday 20th November.

Bev made this gorgeous quilt.

And a pile of little flannel wraps.

Cheryl made the next 2 quilts

Jill made this quilt, which was quilted by Evelyn

And Evelyn also made this one

The next quilt was made by Lynn H from Shepparton.  It was quilted by Cheryl.

The little slippers at the rear of this next photo were made by Bev.  The rest of the items were made by Helen.

Helen also made these two shawls and the 3 flannel wraps.

This shawl was a donation from one of the parishioners at St Timothy & St Paul's, in Kincumber.  Helen put a border and a fringe on it, so it is ready to be donated.

Our next meeting will be a Christmas party.  So I expect there will be a quilt or two produced for the first meeting of 2019, since there is quite a long break.

First Meeting for November

There were lots of us at this meeting.  Maria was there for the first time since breaking her foot - good to see you Maria!  Lots of people means there were heaps of quilts brought in, so heaps of eye candy for you.

We had two lovely ladies, Moo Baulch and Charlotte Davies, come to talk to us about Domestic Violence NSW (DVNSW).  The organisation is the representative body for domestic and family violence services and practitioners across the whole of NSW. So sad that such services are required.  We have been supporting this organisation since October 2015 and have donated 308 quilts over that time.  Today we had a large donation ready to give the ladies.

The Senior Citizens lunch will be on the 3rd November.  We had 3 little quilts prepared to donated to them as prizes.

And now to show you the completed quilts which came in today.

Firstly I have to tell you that Evelyn is part of a group of Trinity Grammar School mums who mostly sew for charity.  This is a donation from Ann, one of these ladies.  Evelyn quilted it.

This one is a little quilt made by our member Ann P and quilted by Evelyn

The next 4 quilts were made by Cheryl....

Look at those 2" squares from the quilt above!!

And this one is made with 2.5" squares.

The next 3 quilts were made by Evelyn

Evelyn also quilted this quilt made by Lynn H, one of the Shepparton Quilters.

Helen brought in 4 little flannel wraps and another batch of beanies

Just take a look at the adorable little dogs in this quilt made by Jan.

The next 3 little kids quilts were a donation via QuiltNSW

Sadly, I can't tell you who made the next two quilts, although I do know that Cheryl quilted the first one.

That's it for today.  Our last meeting for this year will be the next one, on the 15th November.  We are actually meeting again, but it will be strictly social and a Christmas lunch.

See you next year.
