Last April Meeting

It was a gorgeous Autumn day and the sun was shining for us last week when we met.  Lots of catchup after the Easter break and lots has happened.

We had a lovely response from We Care Connect, where we donated 15 quilts and some wraps a couple of weeks ago.  This organisation supports disadvantaged children in the NSW Central Coast and Hunter regions.  They sent us some photos of their volunteers unpacking and sorting our donation.

In other news, 19 quilts were delivered to the Palliative Care unit at Concord Hospital, and 11 quilts and 4 knitted/crocheted rugs to Strathfield Meals on Wheels for their clients.

A little further afield, 18 quilts were delivered to Pioneer House, a residential Care Unit in Mudgee (for those outside Australia, Mudgee is about 4 hours drive west of Sydney).

And here are the quilts which came in this meeting.  First up is a lovely quilt donated by Robyn D, a regular contributor to our cause:

The next 4 quilts were made by Sue, from Friday Quilters.  She has obviously hit the brown scraps. 😀Thank you Sue!

In the quilt above, the light multi coloured fabric squares feature rainbows and elephants, and just look at the gorgeous elephants quilted into the white squares with a variegated yellow thread!

This last quilt is made from squares embroidered with Sashiko.  I have added a close up of some of the squares.

7 April 2022

It was another very wet day in Sydney, so that combined with the upcoming Easter holiday meant that numbers were down.  It did not however, mean fewer quilts.

We have donated a raffle quilt for the City of Canada Bay Mayor’s golf day raffle, which will be raising money support world-leading blood cancer clinical trials at Concord Hospital.

The raffle quilt donated by Stitching Hearts to the Drummoyne Sailing Club raised $12,700 together with other prizes.

We have had a few quilts donated to our cause by some lovely generous people.  We really do appreciate their support.

This one was made by the Monday Quilters Group:

Maria's friend Robyn made the next 2 quilts.  Thanks Robyn!

And Sue, from Friday Quilters sent the next 3 quilts in.

This is the rest of the haul laid out on the floor of the hall.  Doesn't it look awesome?

I haven't slipped up with the next two - they are two different quilts.  Hint: look at the binding ;-)

The knitting needles and the crochet hooks have been going hell for leather too, with some lovely shawls, rugs and babies jackets and booties.

That's it for now.  Thanks for stopping by.
