19th October

Lots of discussion this meeting - mostly about wadding (the nice warm middle part of the quilt).  We are always looking at how to source the best wadding at the best price and our current supplier is having supply issues.  We go through so much of that, and a large proportion of our sponsorship money goes on purchasing it.

A delivery was made to We Care Connect.  They are always so appreciative of our support.

One of our members has made some place mats for Life Skills Plus in Mudgee, a country town about 3 hours drive west of Sydney, which provides services to people with disabilities in Mudgee and surrounding villages.  These have been delivered.  We will approach them to see if they would like some quilts too.

The other topic was our annual Christmas donation to charity.  We normally give a cash donation collected throughout the year in our "piggy" bank to a charity locally.  We have decided to keep this year's donation back until we find a suitable charity.  Instead we will be collecting clothes and other goodies for the Wayside Chapel - an inner city charity which cares for homeless.

We have a lovely bunch of quilts to show you this week:

Look at these daring elephants!

And the border has been quilted with elephants too.

Can you see the cute animals stitched onto the little beanies??

5th October

Here we are almost at the end of the year, and planning our Christmas gathering.  Seems like only yesterday that we were celebrating last Christmas.

We have decided to make a donation of clothing and other goods for homeless and other people in need - donations will be brought in to our last meeting for November to be distributed before Christmas, along with our usual Christmas cash donation.

Concord Palliative Care Unit have asked that quilts we donate be the larger single size, a patients are mostly bedridden.

Distributed packs of squares for lap size quilts, cut from our stash of fabrics.  You will hopefully see them coming in shortly.

There was a suggestion that we might donate quilts to families caught up in the earthquake in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.  These families were poor to begin with and have lost everything.

This first quilt was donated by Elizabeth VDH.  Elizabeth met one of our members at Spotlight by chance some months back, and has donated quite a lot of quilts to us.  Thank you Elizabeth!

Next up is a quilt donated by Lynn H from Shepparton Quilters, and finished off by one of our members.

The little beanies on the left of the photo here, are just so cute!  When you put them on, the square corners form little "ears".  Hopefully they will delight some little girls.

That's it for today folks.  See you next time.
