ISewlation Post 4

There have been quite a few quilts dropped off at our collection hub in Sydney so time for another post.  Bev advised me today that 102 quilts had been delivered  since we stopped meeting.  Isn't that awesome!

Earlier this week, there was a delivery of  7 single, 10 lap and 5 children's quilts to Sanctuary Housing.  We have donated quilts to this organisation before, but not for ages. They provide women and children with accommodation, food, clothing and assistance due to domestic violence and homelessness. We have been invited to go one day and see the work they do.

You might remember that we had a large donation of quilts from the Shepparton Quilters a couple of years ago, and we posted photos of them over a period of about 6 months.  Jill had a call recently from Lynne, one of the ladies - I'm told they read our blog posts, so here is a hello to the Shepparton Quilters from our group!

Jill has also spoken to the Senior Citizens Club re arrangements for our return to the hall for meetings.  Unfortunately there is no indication when we might be able to return.

Enjoy the quilts!

Did you know that Stitching Hearts has its own Facebook page?  If you visit us there (search for Stitching Hearts Quilters), and hit "like" you will see the posts as they are written.  Come and visit us and say hello.

See you next time....

First July Meeting

I wasn't able to get to the meeting this time, so Evelyn stepped in to take the photos and Lesley took some notes, so that I could still put up a post.  Thank you ladies!

Jill and Maria went to the morning tea organised by the Senior Citizens Centre.  This event is an annual event and we donate quilts to be passed on to Westmead hospital.

Jill took 4 lap quilts to Meals on Wheels.  You might remember that we made a quilt for each client of Meals on Wheels, for both Burwood and Concord depots a couple of years back.  The ones delivered this time were top ups for new clients.

We also donated 12 single and 19 children's quilts, 16 beanies, 10 scarfs and 2 knitted rugs to Sanctuary House.

Robin brought in 35 quilts tops donated by a group of ladies from Shepparton in Victoria, which the kind ladies delivered to Robin at the recent QuiltNSW quilt show. I will be posting photos of these as they are finished.  How generous are these ladies!!

Here are the quilts for this week.

The first 6 quilts were made by Evelyn:

Second May Meeting

Most of those who have been away recently came to our second May meeting, so lots of business was discussed:

Quilts have been delivered to the Concord Hospital Palliative Care Unit; Kelly from Domestic Violence has offered to come to talk to us; we have donated a quilt to Our Lady of Assumption Primary School for a fund raising raffle, we don't know yet how much was raised; several thank you letters were read out; Lynn from Shepparton in Victoria has offered us 30 quilt tops and a roll of batting - to be handed over at the Quilt Show in June.  Wow!; and the Senior Citizens Club will be having a Morning Tea on the 25th June.

Nicole came to give us an inspiring talk about Sanctuary Housing, a local organisation which provides crisis accommodation for women who are homeless, most of whom have experienced domestic violence.  The women are referred here either by the Police or through outreach programs, and about 75% arrive with nothing at all from very difficult environments. The project relies heavily on Community awareness and donations to supplement Government funds. Click on the above link to read a bit more about this amazing project.

These are the finished quilts that were brought in today:

Evelyn

Evelyn also quilted three children's quilts posted to us by Daphne from Wodonga, Victoria (I told you about that in my previous post here).  Aren't they cute?  Thanks Daphne.
