2nd July

Two of our members attended a function at Rotary Club of Concord earlier in the week and were presented with a donation from the club.  Thank you Rotary!  It will be used to purchase much needed wadding.  We go through an amazing amount of wadding and it is the most expensive component of our quilts.

A Lovely collection of quilts came in today.  The first two are to be donated to Drummoyne Public School to be raffled.  Top one is the "girls" quilt, the next one the "boys" quilt.

Next are two identical quilts made by Lyn from Friday Quilters:

And a full table of woolies

I was intrigued by the design of this quilt.  I have been staring at the photo for ages, and still can't make out the pattern.  It's very clever.

Winter

Last week was the official start of Winter here in the Southern Hemisphere.  It always astounds me how quickly the weather changes with the start of a new season.  The week before last we had beautiful sunny weather and quite warm, and last week it was still sunny, but decidedly chilly.  Our woolies will be very gratefully received I should think.

You might remember me mentioning that we donated a quilt to a Biggest Morning Tea event.  It was very well received, and they advised us that together with other items, they raised $14,000 for the Cancer Council.

We have a little Piggy that we use to pop in spare cash each meeting.  The proceeds go to a charity a couple of times a year.  We decided to donate collected funds to Street Side Medics who provide a mobile medical service to homeless.

A delivery was made to We Care Connect, which they were delighted to receive.

We had a lovely email from the wife of a man who passed away in the Concord hospital Palliative Care unit in September 2021 and had been a recipient of one of our quilts.  She treasures the quilt given to him so much that it has prompted her to take up quilting!

Meals on Wheels will be having a thank you morning tea shortly, invitation to come soon.

There were 19 quilts brought in this week, and 11 woollen items.

The table with the woollen items included a super cute Mrs Kangaroo, complete with a baby in her pouch.  Isn't she gorgeous?

And a jumper for a child

This quilt was donated by Cheryl from Friday Quilters

I love this!  I am not sure who made it, but she must have bags and bags of black and white scraps as there have been at least 3 quilts like this already.  I might have to hunt out my black and white fabrics 😄

That's it for today.  'Til next time....

Easter 2026

Business wise, this was a big meeting even though there were a few missing members.

We have had notification that we have been successful in our grant applications from the Club Burwood, Canterbury League Club and Dooleys Catholic Club Lidcombe.  We are very grateful that these clubs have agreed to sponsor us.  Our biggest expense is for wadding - the middle layer of a quilt which makes them warm.  Although we are gifted a lot of fabric, there is rarely a piece large enough for the back of a quilt, and we have to purchase quite a bit of backing fabric.  So our thanks go to these 3 clubs for their support of our group; without grants like this we could not function in the way we do.

We have had requests for raffle quilts from the organisers of fund raisers:

*  for the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea on 12 May.

*  Concord West Public School

*  St Mary's School

*  Next Sense School for Hearing and Vision Impaired Children

*  The Foundation & Friends of the Botanic Gardens

Quilts were selected and prepared for delivery.

And here are the quilts for today's meeting:

That's it for today!  Have a great week.
