6th August

Our meeting last week was well attended, and judging by the number of quilts and woollen goodies brought in, our members were busy!

We have been advised that the Canterbury Leagues club have agreed to give us a grant.  Thank you!  It will be well used.

Drummoyne Public School fund raising auction went live online this week and the items to be auctioned include the 2 children’s quilts donated from us.  More on that as it unfolds.

Deliveries made to We Care Connect.  As usual, the quilts they received were eagerly accepted.

We also discussed the possibility of donating some of the woollen items we make to Youth Off the Streets.  We will need to arrange delivery of the items.

First in the quilt parade are the quilts donated by our followers. The first 3 quilts were made by Robyn:

And this one was donated by Sandra.

The rest were made by our members:

And loads of beanies and scarves, together with a bunch of bags.

That's it for now.  See you next time.

Easter 2026

Business wise, this was a big meeting even though there were a few missing members.

We have had notification that we have been successful in our grant applications from the Club Burwood, Canterbury League Club and Dooleys Catholic Club Lidcombe.  We are very grateful that these clubs have agreed to sponsor us.  Our biggest expense is for wadding - the middle layer of a quilt which makes them warm.  Although we are gifted a lot of fabric, there is rarely a piece large enough for the back of a quilt, and we have to purchase quite a bit of backing fabric.  So our thanks go to these 3 clubs for their support of our group; without grants like this we could not function in the way we do.

We have had requests for raffle quilts from the organisers of fund raisers:

*  for the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea on 12 May.

*  Concord West Public School

*  St Mary's School

*  Next Sense School for Hearing and Vision Impaired Children

*  The Foundation & Friends of the Botanic Gardens

Quilts were selected and prepared for delivery.

And here are the quilts for today's meeting:

That's it for today!  Have a great week.

Lockdown Stitching

 As I mentioned in my previous post, the whole of Greater Sydney is in lockdown due to Covid-19 and has been for over 8 weeks now.  However, for most of us, sewing is what is keeping us sane.  We have arranged for a drop off "hub" where quilts can be dropped off for distribution.  Those that are able to, have made use of this and as a result, Bev will be delivering a bundle of quilts to the Palliative Care Unit at Concord Hospital, possibly today.

The other bit of exciting news is that we were successful in our application for a grant from the City of Canada Bay Council, and also one from the Canterbury-Bankstown Council.  Both of these councils are within our local distribution area, where most of our quilts go.  Such good news as we will be able to replenish our supply of wadding.

Here are some of the delivered to the hub recently.

So good to see that we can still be helping the vulnerable during this stressful time.
