Second August Meeting

Most of the group were present for this meeting, except me!  Evelyn and Lesley did a great job of photography for me so I could write this post.  Thank you ladies.

We donated a quilt for the Massey Park Golf Club (Ladies Committee) for a silent auction on their fundraising day on Wednesday 29/8/18 to benefit Leichhardt Women’s Health Centre
Evelyn asked if we could give a couple of quilts to the Crookwell C.W.A. to be used as raffles to raise funds for the Drought Relief. She has taken 2 quilts - I have shown you them before, but these are the two:

We always make a donation to charity in lieu of Christmas gifts amongst our members, so this year we have decided to make the donation now and make our chosen charity the Drought Relief program.  Evelyn to co-ordinate that.
Since last meeting, Graham, a volunteer from Dandelion Support Network picked up 18 children’s quilts, 13 baby wraps and 15 beanies on 7/8/18. No thank you letter received as yet. The Dandelion Support Network accepts, sorts and safety checks children’s clothes and nursery items for families in need, through hospitals and support agencies.  They operate from Caringbah a suburb of Sydney.  To find out more about their work, click here.

Sadly, one of our newer members, Anne H announced that she is moving back to Brisbane so will no longer be coming.  Wishing you well in the future Anne.
Here are the completed quilts which came in today:
The first one was a donation from Lynn H, from Shepparton in Victoria:

Evelyn made the next two:

The centre panel for this one was made by Wendy Williams, teacher at Material Obsession in Sydney.  Evelyn completed the quilt.

Helen brought in 3 little flannel wraps:

And a bunch of beanies and scarves:

Ann P made this quilt, and Maria quilted it:

Last, and NOT least is a lovely quilt made by Maria's friend Robyn:

15th March

We have had some feedback from the article on Stitching Hearts which appeared in Australian Patchwork & Quilting Vol. 27 No. 12:

Firstly, we welcomed two new ladies - Christine & Ann, who both read about us in the article.  Nice to meet you ladies!

Secondly, Jill had a call from Lyn who lives in Shepparton, Victoria - bit far for her to come to our meetings (only about 12 hours drive!!) but she and a couple of her friends would like to make tops for us to distribute.  Lovely offer, thanks Lyn.

We also had a text from Dale at Drummoyne Rotary to tell us that Roxanne from the Leichhardt Women's Community Health Centre gave a very informative talk to one of the Rotary meetings (remember a few months back Dale and Roxanne met accidentally when they both called into one of our meetings??).  Keeping fingers crossed, that is a useful connection for both groups.

And now the Show and Tell

This lovely quilt was a donation, quilted by Robin and completed by Bev.

Evelyn, made this one,

and she also quilted this one, made by Bev.

Quilted by Dasha, unknown maker

Jan made three quilts.

And she quilted this one.

Helen made some sweet children's beanies, a couple of flannel baby wraps and two scarves

Lesley made this gorgeous doggy quilt, and Cheryl quilted it (click on the photo to see a larger photo).

Cheryl also made the next two quilts

Close up of the skiers - aren't they cute??
So that's the lot.  It will be Easter before the next meeting, so from all of us - Happy Easter!

First March Meeting

Our first meeting for March was actually also on the first day of March.  Evelyn kindly took the photos for me as I was unable to go.

We had a couple of extra people along today - Darlene doesn't get to many meetings these days and we also had a new member Jennifer (friend of Cheryl’s) join us.  Welcome Jennifer.

Quite a few quilts were delivered:

Good to see so many organisations benefitting from our work.

We didn't have many quilts this week.  Not surprising since we had 2 blockbuster meetings earlier this year.

First two quilts are by Bev

Evelyn brought three quilts in.

This is Helen's crop of beanies of all sizes, a shawl, scarf and flannel wrap

And last but not least Robin.

Do you have an Instagram account?  See our Hashtag is #stitchingheartsquilters, so come and take a peek and follow us there.

Our next meeting is on the 15th March - the Ides of March.  According to the Web, that is the day the Romans set for settling debts, and was the date of the assassination of Julius Caesar. And I thought it was famous because of Shakespeare!

Goodbye 2017

On Thursday we had our last working meeting for 2017.  We will be meeting again, but we will be in Christmas Party mode, so probably no post for that.

We were contacted by the Canada Bay Club asking for our permission to post an article on their webpage about our group.  There was a bit of discussion about the content - will let you know when that happens.

The donations we selected and prepared last meeting have been delivered to St Mary's Villa and the Concord Hospital Palliative Care Unit.  Helen's beanies have been a great hit at the latter.

After the huge number of quilts which arrived last meeting (I told you about that in my last post here), there weren't many completed quilts came in.

This one was made by Colleen, quilted by Bev

Cute cot panel made by Bev.

Jill made this quilt & Evelyn quilted it.

And these two were made by Evelyn

But the best bit was the visitors.  Firstly Jess, a Constable with the local Police, came with a massive donation of beautiful fabrics, from her mother-in-law who is no longer quilting.  We had so much fun sorting through those.

Before Jess left, Roxanne from the Leichhardt Women's Community Health Centre came in.  She gave us an inspiring talk on the wide range of services the Centre provides, one of which is a mentoring program for young girls at risk.  The Centre is the newest organisation on our list of recipients.  To see what they do, you can click on the link above. The photo below is of Jess and Roxanne with the rest of our group and the 8 quilts to be donated to the Centre.

Later in the afternoon, Tina and Dale from the Rotary Club of Drummoyne called in with a donation from the Club.

Their generous support will allow us to purchase some more desperately needed wadding so that we can continue to support our community.

So the cupboard is bare, and we will be regrouping mid January after our Christmas break.  See you then.
