August! Can you Believe it?

I think our Winter might be over!  We have had some absolutely glorious sunny days with 20-22C temps and how I wish it was like this all through the year.

We met for our first August meeting last week.  At this rate, in no time at all we will be skidding into Christmas!

At the business end of the meeting, Jill told us that she had been contacted by Kathleen Yorke House.  They need 7 single bed quilts and 7 for children/babies.  Later on, when we sorted the quilts on hand we realised that we had pretty much all the children's quilts needed, and only needed one or two more of the adult ones.

Drummoyne Rotary have requested 2 quilts for raffling - one for their Golf Day and one for the Spring Dance.

There were quite a few quilts brought in this week.

Bev made the first two:

This next quilt was from a deceased estate.  We were lucky enough to acquire it.  Quilted by Evelyn.

Here is a close up of the quilt.  Isn't it lovely?

The next 2 are a pair of cute kid's quilts with Cheryl trademark style stamped all over them.  Gorgeous cheerful quilts Cheryl!

The next two were made by Robyn before she left for her trip overseas.  They were both quilted by Cheryl.

Over the last few months several of us have made some placemats from some of the Christmas fabrics in our cupboard.  They will be donated to Concord Hospital and will hopefully cheer up the tables during the Christmas Season.

Last of all, we pulled out a number of quilts which might do as raffle quilts for Rotary, although I don't think we made a decision.  This is one we have had in the cupboard for ages, and I am sure I have shown it before, but such a long time ago I thought it was worth another photo.

It is made of 2" hexagons and is hand pieced.  The fabrics are quite old, so it has an antique feel to it.  The top was donated completed to the pale blue border.  Jan finished it off by adding the borders - thankfully there was some of the navy fabric in the bundle, so she was able to use that for the outer border.  Here is a close up of it.

That's it for now.

The Missing April Post

When Stitching Hearts met on 21 April, I was in the wilds of Queensland.  Evelyn was kind enough to take these photos for me.  Unfortunately I don't have a list of who made what.  So apologies to those I don't name.

First up are a couple from Robin.

Not sure who made this sweet little quilt.

The next two are Cheryl's trademark - bright, scrappy, fun quilts.

This one is a combined effort - Jill made the blocks which she donated to Stitching Hearts, I put them together, and Robin quilted it.

The next two were originally one large king size quilt top donated to the group.  We don't use that size quilt, so I split the quilt top into two and put borders on them to make two single sized quilts.  Robin quilted them.

Evelyn made the next two quilts.  Love the kaleidoscopes in the first of these.

The next 12 are little baby wraps which will be donated to Westmead Children's hospital.  7 were made by Cheryl and 5 by Jill.  These girls churn them out by the dozen!  They are so sweet.

That's it for now.

Half Way Through the Year!

Here we are almost at the end of June.  The Winter Solstice (Summer one for those in the Northern Hemisphere) is done and dusted, and we are all feeling the chill as a cold snap has hit us.

Nevertheless, we had a great meeting last week.  For the business end of the meeting, Jill told us that another 12 quilts have gone to Ronald MacDonald House.  We also provide the Senior Citizens club with quilts for sale at their annual Morning Tea, with proceeds going to Westmead Children's Hospital, as do the quilts left over from that day.  This year we provided 72 baby wraps and 7 children's quilts.

Here's our Show and Tell for the meeting:

Evelyn made the first two.

I love the way the Half Square Triangles have been laid out - they look like they are twisted ribbons.

Next up were three little flannel raw edge raggy quilts made by Bev in lovely bright colours.

The alternate blocks had little quilted animals and other shapes.

She also made this pretty scrappy quilt.

Cheryl made the next two.

There's bound to be a little horse-mad girl who will adore this quilt.

This quilt was a donation from Coleen's friend.  Her sewing group are so good in supporting us, they make donations very regularly.  The quilt was quilted by Cheryl.

The next two quilts were made by Shirley, one of our members, who sadly passed away a couple of years ago.  If you would like to read the tribute to Shirley, click here.  Shirley's husband donated all of her sewing things and unfinished quilts to us.  They were quilted by Dasha.

The Baskets needed something "extra", so now each basket is sporting a couple of little yellow flowers.  A couple were so full, that they overflowed!

Jill and Lesley made half a dozen baby wraps.

I just love Jill's green ants with their crowns!

Lesley's have a sweet little angel appliqued in the centre.

As June has 5 weeks, our next get together is a social one.  The ladies are all travelling up to the Central Coast by train for lunch on the 30th to visit Jan and I, who are locals.  The journey is more than half the fun!  We are invading the Fisherman's Wharf at Woy Woy.

May - First Meeting

Our first meeting for May this year was on Thursday 5th.  We just about had full house, with 12 people turning up on the day.

There was a bit of business to discuss.  During the past month, 12 lap quilts were taken to Concord Palliative Care.  Then on April 28, Cheryl and Jill to 20 singles and 21 children's quilts to the Domestic Violence Unit.  These will probably be going out to western NSW to places such as Bourke and Walgett, where sadly, there is a need for them.  Both these organisations will be happy to accept ongoing donations.

Good news is that Drummoyne Rotary are proposing to donate $500 to our group.  We are truly grateful for their continued support.  There will be a presentation dinner in July.

First cab off the rank for Show and Tell this time were two quilts donated to our group by Coleen's friend Maureen.  They were quilted by Robin.

Maureen has been a staunch supporter, and frequently sends us quilt tops.  Thank you Maureen.

The next two are Robin's work.

This one was made by Cheryl and quilted by Robin.

Jill made the next three.  They were quilted by Robin.

This next quilt was made by Evelyn & Robin for Quilts of Hope.  Evelyn received 6 blocks and some fabric made up the rest of the blocks required.  Robin helped with the blocks and did the quilting.

The next four quilts were made by Evelyn.

This next one is not made from strips of fabric, but from dozens of triangles.  Looks amazing.

The quilts were made from blocks left over from another project.  Amazing left overs - enough to make up 2 more lap quilts!

This quilt was paper pieced and was donated in pieces.  Jan completed it and has quilted it.

Besides all the quilts I've shown the ladies made up 19 little baby wraps for Westmead Children's Hospital.  I've photographed them in groups of 4, but don't count them - I forgot to take a photo of one of the groups (sorry girls).  Anne made 2, Cheryl 7, Jill 8, Jan and Ellen 1 each.

That's all for now.
