Christmas Gathering

OK.  So I did say I wouldn't be doing a post until next year, but I really needed to share a couple of things with you all.

Last week we had a Christmas Gathering at the Sydney Rowing Club in Abbotsford.  What a gorgeous location!  Here are a couple of photos from that day.

This was the view....(that is Rhodes in the distance)

The ferry wharf is just down from the club, and this is the River Cat preparing to leave the wharf.

And with a whoosh it was gone...

We have received a Thank You from Murray Farm Public School.  Earlier this year we donated two quilts to the P&C for the raffle which was part of their major fund raiser.  The fund raiser  was hugely successful and raised $98,000 for the school.

The big bit of news though was the list of goods we had produced this year, which was distributed to us at our gathering.  We and our loyal band of helpers who donate quilts to us for distribution have done the following:

Goodbye to 2022

It's not really the end of the year yet, but the meeting last week is the last working one for us this year, and the last blog I will be doing for 2022.  Tomorrow will be a fun Christmas lunch, then a lovely long break until mid January.

Quilts were dropped off to Concord Hospital Palliative Care Unit.  These were a timely donation as they had nearly run out of supply. The quilts are also sometimes given to people in Intensive Care.

Delivery of 19 quilts, plus beanies and crocheted rugs was made to We Care Connect.  It is such a special cause, supporting children who live below the poverty line on the Central Coast and Hunter regions. Click on the link above to find out more.  They love receiving quilts, and feedback was that the quilts given are “often the nicest thing in the client's house”.

We had a lot of quilts come in this week.  As usual, several were donations from our supporters.

First off are two fabulous quilts made by Ann from Trinity Grammar Craft Group

Our friend Sue from Friday Quilters made this one.

And another regular donor is Robyn, who made this.

The rest were made by our members.

Just take a look at the cute backing fabric on the kids quilt above.  Cookies!

Two great "man" quilts.  We never have enough of them.

There's bound to be a dog lover out there who will just adore this quilt

Here is a close up of some of those cuties.

I love this one too - those crazy, quirky ladies!

And the back of it is pieced too...

Last but not least a fabulous array of knits and kids tee shirts.

That's it for today.  Thank you for supporting our group.

May you all have a happy, peaceful Christmas.   See you in January.

3rd November

Quilts selected last meeting for Dandelion have been delivered.

Each year, we collect loose change in a "piggy bank" at our meetings and at the end of the year the "pig money" is donated to one of the local charities.  This year we have chosen the Sikh Kitchen as the charity.  They have been really active in the community during Covid, and also throughout the fires and floods we have experienced in recent years.

Several of our members have been working hard cutting 6.5" squares from children's fabrics and bundling them into "kits".  These were distributed at the meeting, so you'll see a few "I spy" quilts coming through in the next few weeks.

Remember I mentioned the quilt last post, (read it by clicking here) which was sent to the Royal Flying Doctor Service to be raffled?  I received a photo of the quilt a few days ago and some details too.  The quilt was a donation to our group, made by Jacky Barton and quilted by Sue Rowles.  It is stunning!

As usual, there were some lovely quilts came in this week.

The first four quilts are a donation from our long time supporters Mary and Robyn.  All made by Robyn and quilted by Mary.  Thank you ladies.

This one was a donation of partly completed blocks which were finished off by the Monday Quilters.

And some teddy bears....

Aren't they just adorable??

See you next time.  Thanks for visiting.

22 October

Hard to believe there are only 2 more working days left this year!

We received a lovely email from a lady whose husband had passed away recently in Concord Hospital.  Part of her email reads:

"I now have this quilt on my bed at home and it is a constant reminder, not of his death,  but of the effort and love these quilters have made to make me feel better at one of my darkest moments."

For us, that is the reason we quilt!  It is so good to hear from people to whom we have made a donation, and to know that there is someone out there who has got a bit of joy from our efforts.

We delivered another bundle of quilts to Concord Palliative Care Unit.

And also 21 quilts to Dandelion.  This was one of those.

A quilt was sent off to the Royal Flying Doctors Service at Broken Hill to be raffled at their fund raiser to be held later this year.  They are such an important service throughout outback Australia, it's great to help just a little bit.  Click on the name to see what they do.

Some great scrappy quilts came in today.  Enjoy!

There is a cold, biting wind out there today - more July than November.  I am looking at the next 2 photos as I write this and thinking someone would be glad of these warm beanies and shawls on a day like today.

Keep warm and chat to you soon.
