5th September

Our last meeting was a big one, and despite 4 people being away (one was in Morrocco and experienced the earthquake), there were 25 completed quilts brought in, together with a bundle of flannel wraps and knitted items.

We have had grants from the City of Canada Bay Council and from Burwood RSL Club.  A big thank you to our supporters - without them we could not function.

We made a delivery to St Mary's Nursing home after the last meeting, and it was just in time for Father's Day.  They were thrilled.

The other very important bit of business discussed was the Christmas lunch.  Can't believe it is time to be preparing for that.  Can you?

A lot of the quilts today were those donated to us by our very keen assistants.  Although not members, they nevertheless spend a lot of time to support our cause with their donations.

One of our members belongs to a group which meets at Hobbysew on a Monday for a sit and sew.  There were several quilts from that group, from Robyn, Cheryl and Ella.  These first 3 are Robyn's:

Another member went to a display of quilts put on by a group called Caring Hearts Quilters, a group who are based in Penrith, a suburb of Sydney at the foot of the Blue Mountains.  They, like us, make quilts for charity.  To cut a long story short this lovely group donated one of their quilts to us.  There is a Facebook page for this group.

This one was made by Lyn H from Shepparton Quilters

Sue E from Friday Quilters, has given us 3 more quilts.

A large bundle of Flannel baby wraps have been made.  These are incredibly popular with organisations which support babies and young children.

And some beanies too.

Enjoy the rest of the quilts....

Just take a look at how many tiny pieces there are in this quilt!  I counted 64 in each block and there are 12 blocks plus the border!  What patience.

Hope you enjoyed the post for this meeting.  See you next week.

Mid August

Sadly folks, I have managed to corrupt 5 photos and they are not retrievable.  I have tried several different ways to recover the mess, but unfortunately have not been able to do that.  So this week's post is 5 quilts short.

Moving on, we had a full house for our last meeting.  It was a bit squashy at the table for lunch, but it was really good to see everyone.

We made a delivery to Concord Palliative Care - always hugely appreciated.

We have prepared a parcel of knitted goods for both St Mary's Villa and for the Wayside Chapel.

Quite a few donated items have been received - some completed, some needed quilting by our members.

First up were 2 from the Wattlegrove Quilters.  The gorgeous appliqued quilted made by this group is one of the photos which were corrupted.  Here is the other, made by Susan,

Elizabeth VDH made the next three quilts.

Raelene, our friend from Friday Quilters sent us these three quilts:

A neighbour of one of our members has donated 7 little knitted cardigans.  These will definitely be useful to keep someone warm.

There were also a number of beanies, and scarves brought in, but that photo is another of the corrupted ones :(

Just take a look at Mr Fox.  Isn't he divine?  One of our members has found a book with lots of animals in it, so she is promising us a few more of these.

Here are the rest of the quilts:

Bye for now, and thanks for stopping by to support us.

3rd August

Once again there was a huge variety of completed quilts brought in, with several donations from our lovely generous friends.

One of our members gets together with a "Sit and Sew" group at Hobbysew.  These lovely ladies all made blocks to put together in this first quilt.  It was quilted by Mary.

The next two quilts were made by Elizabeth VDH.

Our friend Sue from Friday Quilters made this one:

Anne from the Trinity Grammar group made this:

You'd be forgiven for thinking I had doubled up on the photos.  I certainly had to look twice, but it really is two quilts, not one!

This next one is a flannel quilt.  It is so soft and warm to the touch.

The technique used to make this next quilt is called "Stack & Whack".  You layer 8 pieces of the same fabric, making sure that the patter repeat is perfectly aligned, then cut the wedges for the block.  It is a fabulous way to use a large scale print.

And lastly, some baby bootees, flannel wraps and some wooly beanies.

An industrious bunch this week weren't they?
