Winter is here!

1st June is the official start of winter here.  Our last meeting was on the 3rd, and it was certainly a cold, wet and wintery day.  A lot of people away too, which made for a much smaller meeting than usual.

Coleen delivered quilts to St. Mary’s Villa, and once again they were very grateful.

We were advised of a possible new outlet for our quilts - St. Vincent’s de Paul, Bondi Junction, who run Delores and Killara Refuges.  These are crisis accommodation for single women and women with children who have experienced domestic/family violence. As a result of the recommendation, a number of quilts were delivered to them by Bev.

Also last week, Philippa Campbell, of Domestic Vilolence NSW interviewed Dasha to profile 

Stitching Hearts on Facebook for Volunteers Week.  If you have a Facebook account, you

We decided to donate the $110 collected this year in our charity Piggy Bank to Wombat

Rescue.

Thank You Afternoon Tea

Our meeting last week included a "Thank You" Afternoon Tea.  We have a little band of friends who don't come to our meetings, but support us with quilts and other donations, so we decided to invite them to Afternoon Tea.  We ended up with 6 visitors, Angela, Kat, Helen, Sue & Robin.

We had all the quilts which came in that day, plus all the ones in the storage cupboard laid out for an awesome display and some absolute yummies for the tea itself.  I think our visitors had a lot of fun.  I certainly enjoyed meeting them all (an the cakes too).

Here are the quilts that arrived that day.

Furstly, Sue was thrilled to spot a completed quilt which she had donated as a top.

The next two are made from the Wonky Log Cabins the group made at Christmas time.  They have come up really well.

And another crumb quilt.  Oh the patience required to sew this!!

More for April

Not much business in this week's meeting, other than a discussion on the need for more wadding, and backing fabrics, and other quilting supplies.  We have a lot of fabric donations but not much of it is large enough to use as backing for our quilts.  And wadding disappears at a great rate.

Quilts were dropped off to Concord Palliative Care Unit last week.  These were well received as they were getting low on supply.

We selected some lap quilts today to be delivered to Greenwich Hospital Palliative Care unit. 

Some interesting and unusual quilts came in this week.

First cab off the rank for Show and Tell this week is one made by Lynn M and donated to us.  Thank you Lynn for your continued support.

Some sweet little baby booties.....

and some beanies and scarves.

You could be forgiven for thinking these are interesting prints on a fabric....

But just look at this tricky cutting and piecing!  Isn't it fabulous?  The careful cutting on the pattern repeat makes this look like a single piece of printed fabric.  The technique is called Magic Stack and Whack.

And here is a crumb quilt.  Have you ever made one??

Lucky last is a gorgeous log cabin quilt in purples and mauves.
