April Fool

I have always wanted to say that!! Ha ha.  The meeting was no joke though.  

A quilt has been delivered to St Patrick's Church, Mortlake to be raffled at a dinner on the 30th April as a fund raiser for a disabled car for one of the parishioners. 

A couple of members have made up eye masks which will be going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

15 quilts, 3 beanies and 9 scarves were taken to St Mary's Villa last week.  We hadn't given them quilts for a while and this lot were received very enthusiastically.  We decided we should give them some more as they become available.

We decided that we should give some more quilts to Kara Women's and Children's Shelter at Gosford, so 6 adult quilts were selected to be delivered next week.

As our meeting happened to be on the day before Easter, our lovely member Bev, who bakes for us almost every time we meet presented us with these gorgeous cupcakes.  Isn't she a gem?

The first quilt today was made by our friend Sue from Friday Quilters:

You could be forgiven for thinking that I was batty and am showing you 2 photos of the same quilt.  But look closely and you'll see that they are different.

And here are the last 3 (I think) quilts made from the blocks we all made earlier this year.

Second June Meeting

Helen has taken a quilt for EmpowerAbility, Windsor to raffle. This is an organisation that provides help to people with a disability.  You can see some of the amazing things they do by clicking on the link above.

Maria attended the St. Patrick’s Church Mortlake Dinner last week and took this lovely photo of the young lady who won the quilt we donated to the fund raiser. I think the grin say it all!

Lesley has taken 12 quilts to Legacy which they will hand out on their weekly visits to nursing homes.

Colleen has taken 3 scarves and 8 beanies for St. Patrick’s College Strathfield “Night Patrol” for the homeless people.

Quite a few lovely quilts came in this week.  Here they are in no particular order:

Helen has crocheted some lovely beanies.  That one with the flower is so cute!

 

She also made a raggedy cot quilt from flannel.

We had a donation of these knitted beanies from the ladies at St Paul's Church in Kincumber.

 

Jill completed a couple of projects started by Darleen.

This one was a Disappearing 9 Patch.  The blocks were made absolutely ages ago at a sewing day at one of our meetings by several of our members.  Dasha put it together and Maria quilted it.

Maria also made the next 3 quilts.

 

Maria also brought in a lovely quilt made by her friend Mary.  Mary has donated quite a few quilts to us.  Thank you Mary for your generosity.

First Meeting, March 2019

Lots of action happening this meeting, with most of our members present and a couple of visitors too.

Firstly Tania Chahoud the Family Educator from St Ambrose Primary School Concord West, came to talk to us about the outreach in which the School is involved.  This includes feeding the homeless, work with refugees and support for the Yaralla Women's Refuge.  We gave her several quilts for fund raising and agreed to supply the women at Yaralla with a quilt.

Then Dale Larsen from Rotary Club of Drummoyne spoke about Rotary's fundraising this year, and about the Christmas in July function to be held at Drummoyne Oval in conjunction with to Parkes Rotary Club to raise funds for drought relief.  Dale took a three quilts with her too.

Apart from these we selected a number of raffle quilts to be donated to various organisations including one each for Concord West Public School, Marie Bashir School, Strathfield, St. Patrick’s Church, Mortlake, Concord Hospital Volunteers, and 2 quilts for the C.W.A. Crookwell.

Cheryl made the next three quilts

 

 

This one is a real group effort.  The blocks were a donation, put together by Evelyn and quilted by Robin.  Evelyn took it home to put binding on and once that is done, it will be one of those given to the ladies at the Crookwell CWA.

Evelyn made these next two quilts.

She also quilted this one, which was a donation from the ladies at the Trinity Grammar School craft group.

Helen made 8 flannel wraps for babies.

 

And a bundle of beanies and scarves.

 

Jill made the next two quilts (and no, I haven't doubled up on the photos!  Just similar fabrics and styles.)
