Spring!

Here in Australia, 1st September is the official start of Spring.  Last Thursday we had a beautiful sunny day for our meeting.

We had two visitors today.  Darleen, our founding member, came along for the first time in ages, and Dale Larsen from Drummoyne Rotary came to give us an update on their fundraising.

The Christmas in July fundraiser for Drought Relief was held in conjunction with Parkes Rotary and Canada Bay Council. There were over 100 attending. Auctions were held and 30% of funds raised came from the 4 quilts donated by our group. A total of $11,000 was raised on the day.

Bev took the 2 fiddle quilts I showed you in the last post to the Palliative Care Unit at Concord Hospital.  They were well received.  Two more have been made, and we have been requested to make 2 more.

The raffle held by Leichardt council with one of our quilts as the prize raised $120 for the Drought relief fund.

Here are the completed quilts brought in this week:

18th July

Well I seem to have mislaid my notes on this meeting, so I am doing it from memory.  If I have allocated a quilt to the wrong person, or forgotten something, please do feel free to tell me!

Thank you email and letter received from Katie Matthews from Legacy. She has also invited any of us who would like to go to the Legatee’s lunch which is held at their head office in York Street at 11.30 every Thursday.
Helen took raffle quilt for Leichhardt Seniors as they are currently raising money for the Farmer’s Drought Relief Fund.

Colleen has taken the 20 single quilts for Yaralla Women’s Refuge to be given to Tania Chahoud to be passed on.
Dasha and Jan took 18 quilts, 11 flannel baby wraps and a bundle of 24 beanies to Barnardos at Wyong.  They deal with children in crisis care, so have a huge turn over of children, and were thrilled with this bundle.

Robin brought in a huge donation of lovely fabric given to us by Melinda, Amanda Daly and Sandra Lyons. Besides that, Linda Butcher has given us a generous voucher from Craft Deppot.  We are so very appreciative of all those donations.  Thank you ladies!
First two quilts were by Evelyn.

Cheryl brought in the next three quilts.

Helen made 2 flannel wraps and some beanies and scarves.

6th September

Our first meeting for September was last Thursday.

Our group passed around a hat and collected $170 for The Farmers Drought Relief Fund and donated to Crookwell Country Women’s Association for distribution along with 2 quilts for them to raffle [I showed you the photos of these in the last post here].

The quilt we gave to Massey Park Golf Club Women’s Committee for their fundraising day on 29th August raised $175.

Rose Incampo from Handital came to meet us and talk to us about what their aims are.  This organisation creates a community for people with disabilities, their families and carers, where they will be treated with respect, equality, justice and appreciation of their particular values and abilities, and is located at Five Dock.  We have given her a quilt to raffle at their dinner in October.   You can read a bit more about the organisation here.

Here are the quilts which came in this week.

First two were made by Jill.

Robin quilted the next 3 quilts, all made by the lovely ladies from Shepparton:
