May 18th

Our second meeting for May was held on 18th May.  Quite a bit of business was covered:

Deliveries were made to Concord Palliative Care Unit and the Dandelion Support Network.  Both received the quilts with appreciation.

We have contacted a couple of possible organisations with the view of donating a quilt - Concord Mums Unite, a private Facebook group, and Grace's Place, an organisation supporting children affected by homicide - click on the link above to see the inspiring work this charity does.

A reminder that we are collecting handbags for the charity Share the Dignity.

We've had an email from the Rotary Club of Sydney to advise us that the 2 quilts we donated recently to Rotary were used in a fundraiser which raised over $15,000 for the charities Sydney Food Share, which provides free food and toiletries for anyone who needs it from several locations in inner Sydney, and the Kidman Centre, which provides mental health treatment and research for young people.

An amazing collection of different types of charities doing some really incredible work.  I am often asked what sort of places our quilts go to, and I always have difficulty in replying to that because the causes are so varied.

We had quite a few donated quilts again this week.  We are really fortunate that so many people are willing to assist so generously with their time and gifts of quilts.  Thank you ladies!

Firstly, we had 5 quilts donated by Jackie B.  There is some serious precision piecing in these!

These next three were made by Jackie, but quilted by Sue Rowles, a professional long arm quilter from Camperdown.

And this one was made by Jackie, and quilted by Lyndall Woods, from Norwest Quilting.

Next are 3 cute kids quilts made by Sue E. from Friday Quilters:

This one was made by Effie B.  She works full time, but comes to Monday Quilters during the school holidays.

The rest were made by our members.

I remember this pattern!  This was from a magazine published many years ago.  I am sure if I look, I will find it on my bookshelf.  LOL.  I love it, it's really fun.  Anyone else make it?

Thanks for visiting, hope you enjoyed our eye candy this week.

4th May

Just can't believe it is May already!  But that is what it is, and the blasts of wintery days we've had lately confirms what the calendar says.

We have had several lovely people generously donate some quilts to us.

This one is from Robyn D, who is a regular donor.  What a great and effective way to use up those scraps!

This one was made by Sue E. from Friday Quilters.

The next three quilts were made by Susan U.  Not only does Susan make lovely quilts for us, but she also posts them all the way from Queensland.  Thank you Susan.

The photo above does not show up the lovely soft colours in this quilt, so here is another photo zooming in on just one block.

This quilt has some amazing Sashiko embroidery on each block which hasn't come up in the photo very well - click on the photo to zoom in on it.

The quilting on the next quilt is just special.  It has transformed what is a basic quilt into something great.  Don't you think?

These woolies will be well received with winter on its way.

Bye for now, and thanks for visiting.
