Second meeting for October 2018

With people away on holidays, and off sick, we were a small group on the 18th when we met.  But what a lovely day we had!

Firstly, Jill brought in a massive donation of gorgeous fabrics from Julie A, a long time friend of the group and supporter, although sadly, she never managed to come to our meetings.  It was difficult to get everything into the photo, so there are two, and even then it's not all she gave us.

What a generous donation!  We had a happy time sorting through all that and stashing it away.  Thank you Julie.

Only a few completed quilts came in today.  Helen has been away overseas for several meetings, but still managed to bring in two flannel wraps, and some beanies and scarves.

Bev made this one, quilted by Cheryl.

The gorgeous applique in the centre block was a donation some time back.  Jan completed it, added borders and Cheryl did a lovely job of quilting it.

Evelyn made this sweet little panel.

Colleen and I went through some of the fabrics donated today, where we found part of a layer cake; added a couple of more fabrics; and created this layout for Colleen to sew up.  Watch this space for an update!

We also selected 9 cot quilts to be given to Barnardos at Wyong.  Their focus is crisis care for 0 - 5 year olds.  Sadly there is a large turnover.

Eagle eyes might have spotted a couple of the quilts that were brought in today, and also several from the lovely ladies in Shepparton.

That's it for today.  Our next meeting is this coming Thursday.

First October Meeting

Well I have to apologise!  I have excelled myself in taking dodgy, blurred photos this time.  So cross with myself, since there were some pretty quilts came in.  That's what comes of being in a hurry.

With 9 of us there, there are quite a few quilts to show:

First up are some of the quilt tops donated to us by the lovely ladies in Shepparton (Victoria), completed and ready to be given to their lucky recipients.  I have written about them in several posts.  This one was made by Betty S & quilted by Robin.

These three were made by Lyn H from Shepparton and quilted by Robin.

Made by Ann and quilted by Evelyn

Cheryl made the next three.  Love her cheerful scrappy quilts!

Another lovely lady from Victoria, this time from Wodonga, Daphne T, sent us two more tops (she donated several in May click here to see them).  These two were quilted by Evelyn.

Next one is by Dasha

Jill made the next two: (love the elephants!!)

Jill also made this one, quilted by Bev...

And this one, quilted by Cheryl

The next two tops were donated by Kate O from Maroochydore (that's in Queensland, on the Sunshine Coast).  This one was quilted by Cheryl

And this one by Bev.  Just look at the close up in the next photo to see the gorgeous quilting Bev has done.

The next two quilts were made by Robin, both quilted by Bev.

Evelyn made this pretty quilt.

And the last one - I didn't catch who made it (slap wrist!)

A big "thank you" to the ladies who have sent in donations.  They will be well used.

20th September

I have been very slow getting this post up, but better late than never, don't you think?

Since last meeting we donated 11 lap quilts, 1 shawl and 10 beanies to the Palliative Care Unit at Concord Hospital; and 12 children’s quilts and 7 beanies were taken to Ronald McDonald House.

We had a thank you letter from Massey Park Golf Club Women’s Committee advising us that the quilt we donated to their Charity Day was part of a raffle.  A total of $16,100 was raised on that day.  Great work!!

We also received two children’s quilt tops and 2 pieces of backing from Daphne from Wodonga.  Daphne was kind enough to donate a number of quilt tops earlier this year.  I'll show you this latest batch when they have been completed.
First up I want to show you some of the quilts that have been finished off, part of the donation from the lovely ladies at Shepparton (remember they donated 35 quilt tops in June??)

Sheryl J made this one, quilted by Cheryl

Sheryl J, quilted by Evelyn

Sheryl J, quilted by Robin

Sheryl J actually made 10 quilt tops for us!

And Jan from Shepparton made this one, quilted by Evelyn

Bev made this cute little Dick & Jane kids quilt

Bev also quilted this hand pieced one made by Jan.....

.....and this one made by Ann

.....and this one made by Jill

Look at the interesting design on this one made by Robin.  I thought at first she had used a wedge ruler, but I think she has just cut random wedges.

Cheryl has made the next two quilts.

Jan brought in two quilts.  One with cute animal shapes made with hexies....

.....and this rainbow quilt - all appliqued

And lastly, Jill made this one.
