ISewlation Post No 6

A few exciting things have happened since my last post.

Firstly the Senior Citizens Club where we meet has had a meeting with the Council last week with the view to reopening the Centre to normal activities.  That means that it is looking like we will be able to have a "normal" meeting soon.  Whoop whoop!!  More on that as news filters through.

We have a new sponsor, which is exciting news.  The Rotary Club of Concord has been kind enough to make a donation to our group.  Very timely too, as we are almost out of wadding.  Dasha (that's me) spoke to the Rotary meeting last night on Zoom about what we do, and we have had a really positive response to that.  Isn't Zoom a terrific piece of technology?  Do you use it?

Up to the end of last week we had delivered 160 quilts, with 10 crocheted scarves and 54 beanies since the beginning of the lockdown in early March.  Absolutely astounding work ladies.  We could not have done this without the generous donations of a number of ladies who are friends of our members - Maria's friends Mary and Robyn, Robin's friend Maralyn, and the Shepparton Quilters. All of these ladies have made a significant contribution to the total number of quilts we have donated.

We had a bundle of kids quilts waiting to be distributed, so Bev organised a delivery to Ronald MacDonald House last week.  Among these were 12 quilts donated by Maria's friend Mary.  I am not posting all these photos as 10 of them were exactly the same.....

There were 2 cute jungle prints.

5 little blue Pooh Bears....

And 5 pink ones......

Awesome effort Mary.

Bev also added two quilts like this,

And 12 little beanies.

We also set aside 10 quilts to be delivered to Kara Women's Refuge in Gosford.  Jan and Dasha will be doing that this week.  Kara is a new place for our donations.  They do an amazing job on the NSW Central Coast supporting single women and women with children with crisis accommodation.

Eight of these quilts were donated to us by Maria's friend Robyn.

Thank you Robyn.

ISewlation Post No 5

When I first began posting these ISewlation posts back in March, I really had no idea how things would pan out.  Here is the 5th post in that series, I am amazed at how much there has been to tell you.

Firstly, Bev made another delivery to the Concord Hospital Palliative Care Unit - the quilts are shown below.  As a result we received a lovely email from Clinical Nurse Consultant Cathy, thanking us and saying how appreciative the patients and families are when the patient has been given one of our quilts.  Thanks Cathy.  We appreciate the feedback!

We had a heap of quilts donated to us from various friends of our members.  That is a big help to our group, so a big thank you to Robin's friend Maralyn, Evelyn's sister Annette and Betty from Shepparton Quilters.   You will find their quilts below.

More news is that John, the secretary for Senior Citizens Centre (where we meet) is meeting with the Council this coming week for talks regarding the possibility of the recommencement of activities at the Centre - and that means us.  Woop Woop!!  The next post might might be after a "real" meeting!  Can't wait - it's so long since I've seen my friends.

There's another large collection of children's quilts, some of which have been donated to us, which we have set aside for delivery to a suitable place.  I will show those once we have organised where they are to go.

So here are the quilts from this week's delivery:

Donated by Betty S from Shepparton Quilters, and quilted by Robin.

Evelyn's Sister Annette:

Next 10 quilts are from Robin's friend Maralyn:

This next one is what is known as a "Whole Cloth Quilt".  These are plain pieces of fabric with the feature being the quilting.  If you are interested, you can read a bit on the history of quilting here.  Something I learnt when reading that page is that quilting goes back to ancient Egypt.  This quilt also has a magnificent border, in a design called "Ribbon Border".

This quilt pattern is called "1000 Pyramids"

Have you caught up with us on social media yet?  You'll find us on Facebook on the Stitching Hearts Quilters page, and on Instagram at the hashtag #stitchingheartsquilters.  Come and say hello!

Thank for your support.  Have a great week, and I shall see you next time.
