First Meeting for 2020

Almost all the members were there on Thursday and it was lovely to see everyone after our Christmas break.  It was a long meeting catching up on members' reports.

Jan brought in 4 entire bolts of fabric donated by a friend. They were well received, and we had cut several backings from them by the end of the afternoon.

Christine told us that the Southern Highlands Quilters' Guild biennial Quilt and Craft Show will be held at the Mittagong RSL club on 22 - 23 February 2020.  We are considering going as a group.

We discussed ways that we can assist Bushfire Relief.  That will have to be discussed again next meeting.  Jennifer lives in Clarence, and although her home is OK, a dozen or so homes were lost nearby, so the recent fires are quite personal for us. 

Maria's friend Mary, who has donated a number of quilts to us, has offered to make 16 children’s panels up for the fire relief. 

Cheryl, Bev, Lesley and Maria reported that they had attended functions at Christmas.  One at the Palliative Care Unit end of year lunch, and the other the morning tea put on by the Canada Bay Council at the Canada Bay Club for all the volunteers.

This quilt, donated to our group by one of our first members Rema, has been quilted.  It is lovely and will be used as a raffle quilt.

Sue, a friend from Friday Quilters, made this lovely quilt for us.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone!

A really short post this time since our first official meeting is not until Thursday this week. 

As most of the world is well aware, we have had some horrific fires across all states of Australia beginning way back in October last year and not all are contained yet.  A result is that much of our unique wildlife has either died or been injured.  The lovely volunteers from Animal Rescue Collective, has responded with a call out for people to make wraps and pouches for the injured wildlife.  There has been an amazing response from all over the world.

Our ladies Robin, Cheryl, Lesley and Bev got together last week and made an astounding 161 pouches and liners on behalf of Stitching Hearts.
