Drought, Fires, and now Rain

We have had a lot of rain lately.  Yay!  Thankfully its quite widespread and had done a good job of filling dams and rivers and putting out all the fires.  But it has meant getting around is less than appealing.  Perhaps that was the reason, but we didn't have many members come to our last meeting.  That of course reflected on the number of quilts which came in.  Always lots of stuff to cover though at our meetings.

Remember this quilt I showed you last week?

It was donated to  the Central Coast Leagues Club Bridge Club, who will be fundraising on 12th May for Coast Shelter (crisis accommodation on the Central Coast) and Pandora (supporting grandparents raising their grandchildren).
Fairholme Quilters  will be having their quilt show at the Thornleigh Community Centre on 3-5th April 2020.

Helen brought in a pattern for a knitted Trauma teddy for anyone interested in doing some.

Bev took 5 lap quilts, 3 singles and 1 raffle quilt to Concord Palliative Care Unit.

We discussed giving some of our quilts for bushfire relief in the Southern Highlands. Robyn is the contact and will arrange transport.  We will select some next time she comes to a meeting.

Here are the quilts which came in today.  First up is another gorgeous quilt sent to us as a top by Susan and Shelley from Pittsworth in Queensland.  Are you ladies reading this??  Thank you for this (and the others you sent of course).

This is the cutest panel printed on flannel.

Here is a close up of the little mice.  Aren't they just adorable?

And last, but not least, a few beanies and scarves.

That's All Folks!  (For now...)

First Meeting for 2020

Almost all the members were there on Thursday and it was lovely to see everyone after our Christmas break.  It was a long meeting catching up on members' reports.

Jan brought in 4 entire bolts of fabric donated by a friend. They were well received, and we had cut several backings from them by the end of the afternoon.
Christine told us that the Southern Highlands Quilters' Guild biennial Quilt and Craft Show will be held at the Mittagong RSL club on 22 - 23 February 2020.  We are considering going as a group.

We discussed ways that we can assist Bushfire Relief.  That will have to be discussed again next meeting.  Jennifer lives in Clarence, and although her home is OK, a dozen or so homes were lost nearby, so the recent fires are quite personal for us.

Maria's friend Mary, who has donated a number of quilts to us, has offered to make 16 children’s panels up for the fire relief.

Cheryl, Bev, Lesley and Maria reported that they had attended functions at Christmas.  One at the Palliative Care Unit end of year lunch, and the other the morning tea put on by the Canada Bay Council at the Canada Bay Club for all the volunteers.

Here are Bev, Cheryl & Maria at the Volunteers Morning Tea at the Canada Bay Club with CaraCare CEO, Mary Jo, which appeared on the CaraCare Facebook page a few weeks ago.

There were loads of quilts brought in today.  Enjoy!

This quilt, donated to our group by one of our first members Rema, has been quilted.  It is lovely and will be used as a raffle quilt.

And some close ups of the lovely work:

Can you see the fussy cut magpies?

Sue, a friend from Friday Quilters, made this lovely quilt for us.

The blocks for this quilt were donated.  Bev has completed the quilt.

The blocks for this were donated too.  They are tiny 9 patches.  Can you see them?

Gorgeous bit of hand piecing here:

You can't tell from the previous photo, but just take a look at these super cute little sheep!  Love them.

Several flannel wraps.

There were two identical wraps like the one below...

More sheep.  Aren't these cute?  And yes.  I love sheep!

And just look at the knitted/crocheted work.  An awesome collection.

Next meeting will be in the first week of February.  Until then, keep safe.
