Second August Meeting

Most of the group were present for this meeting, except me!  Evelyn and Lesley did a great job of photography for me so I could write this post.  Thank you ladies.

We donated a quilt for the Massey Park Golf Club (Ladies Committee) for a silent auction on their fundraising day on Wednesday 29/8/18 to benefit Leichhardt Women’s Health Centre
Evelyn asked if we could give a couple of quilts to the Crookwell C.W.A. to be used as raffles to raise funds for the Drought Relief. She has taken 2 quilts - I have shown you them before, but these are the two:

We always make a donation to charity in lieu of Christmas gifts amongst our members, so this year we have decided to make the donation now and make our chosen charity the Drought Relief program.  Evelyn to co-ordinate that.
Since last meeting, Graham, a volunteer from Dandelion Support Network picked up 18 children’s quilts, 13 baby wraps and 15 beanies on 7/8/18. No thank you letter received as yet. The Dandelion Support Network accepts, sorts and safety checks children’s clothes and nursery items for families in need, through hospitals and support agencies.  They operate from Caringbah a suburb of Sydney.  To find out more about their work, click here.

Sadly, one of our newer members, Anne H announced that she is moving back to Brisbane so will no longer be coming.  Wishing you well in the future Anne.
Here are the completed quilts which came in today:
The first one was a donation from Lynn H, from Shepparton in Victoria:

Evelyn made the next two:

The centre panel for this one was made by Wendy Williams, teacher at Material Obsession in Sydney.  Evelyn completed the quilt.

Helen brought in 3 little flannel wraps:

And a bunch of beanies and scarves:

Ann P made this quilt, and Maria quilted it:

Last, and NOT least is a lovely quilt made by Maria's friend Robyn:

First August Meeting

We've had some lovely Thank You letters for our donations from Sanctuary House and the Concord Palliative Care Unit. Also a nice hand made card from Carl, one of the volunteers at the Palliative Care Unit.  Always nice to receive these.

Massey Park Golf Club is holding a fund raiser for the Leichhardt Women's Community Health Centre later this year, so we have donated a quilt for the raffle.

And we had Kim come in to our meeting this time to talk about CaraCare.  CaraCare provide a new model for healing for children who have been abused, traumatised or severely disadvantaged.  Amongst other things, they run group work programs to help children overcome trauma, one of which is the Wrapped in Angels program where the children make their own quilt/blanket.  At the end of the presentation, Kim selected a quilt for a fund raising raffle.  Below is a photo of the quilt with the ladies present on the day.

I have told you previously about the lovely ladies of Shepparton (in Victoria), who were generous enough to donate 32 quilt tops to us a few weeks back.  Well some of these have come in quilted and finished off.

Jan D made the following, quilted by Robin

Lyn H made this lot, quilted by Robin

Great big thank you to these generous ladies for their lovely quilts.

Our newest member Jennifer, made this one, quilted by Cheryl

This magnificent quilt was donated to us by Wendy Williams.

Wendy is a quilt teacher and textile artist who travels all over Australia; her business name is Flying Fish Kits which you can see here.   You will also find her on Instagram and Facebook.

Helen made a few wraps and an armload of beanies and scarves.

Jan brought in a donation from Friday Quilters.  This was a challenge quilt made using tangrams at the Retreat last year.  What a fun quilt!

Cheryl made the next three.  Lovely bright scrappy quilts.

Ann made 3 little wraps.

And Evelyn made the next 2 quilts
